A curable composition is provided to exhibit excellent film coatability even if a high concentration of a colorant is contained, be cured with high sensitivity, and have desirable pattern-forming property, wide latitude upon developing, and good adhesiveness with a substrate. A curable composition comprises (A) a compound having at least one ethylenically unsaturated double bond, (B) a photopolymerization initiator, (C) a colorant, (D) an alkali-soluble resin, and (E) a compound having a partial structure of urethane, amide, or urea in the molecule. A method for manufacturing a color filter includes the steps of: coating a base material with the curable composition to form a colored curable composition layer; exposing the curable composition layer to a light through a mask; and developing the curable composition layer to form a colored pattern.
