A display device and a method for controlling the same are provided to process additional information accurately based on the distortion degree of an image signal, thereby decreasing the error rate. A signal input unit(10) receives an image signal containing analog image information and analog additional information. An additional information process unit(25) converts the analog additional information into digital additional information, based on a reference voltage level. A controller(40) checks whether or the image signal is distorted, and the distortion degree of the image signal, by using a test signal contained in the analog additional information, and regulates the reference voltage level correspondingly to the distortion degree of the image signal.
