<p>It is intended to provide a new transgenic plant in which the expression of an endogenous gene of the plant is suppressed, and a method for producing the same. The invention provides a transgenic plant, in which the expression of a previously specified endogenous gene of the plant is suppressed by DNA methylation and/or histone protein deacetylation, and which does not have an exogenous gene introduced into the plant for inducing DNA methylation and/or histone protein deacetylation; and a method for producing a transgenic plant, in which the expression of a previously specified endogenous gene of the plant is suppressed by DNA methylation and/or histone protein deacetylation, and which does not have an exogenous gene introduced into the plant for inducing DNA methylation and/or histone protein deacetylation. The method comprises the steps of 1) specifying an endogenous gene as a target gene; 2) introducing a nucleic acid consisting of a sequence of a promoter region of the endogenous gene and a nucleic acid encoding a gene-silencing suppressor protein derived from an infectious plant virus into a plant; and 3) obtaining a transgenic plant being a descendant by inbreeding or outbreeding the plant obtained in 2).</p> |
