DEVICE AND METHOD FOR READING ENCRYPTED BARCODES

A device and method for reading encrypted barcodes are disclosed. The device is composed of an imaging system, a decoding system and an output system. In addition, a mainboard of the barcode reading device is coupled to a Smart Card read-write system to which a Smart Card with a Cryptographic key is attached, which receives digital information output from the decoding system and transmits the processed information to the output system. The method includes a step of decryption in addition to steps of reading, decoding and output. A Cryptographic key of the digital information transmitted from the decoding system is compared to the Cryptographic key of the Smart Card and decrypted by the Smart Card read-write system of the barcode reading device, then transmitted to the output system, wherein the Smart Card is attached to the Smart Card read-write system. The invention aims to display barcode information read by the barcode reading device only when it is decrypted by the Smart Card through the Smart Card read-write system. The device is applicable to the barcode reading in need of secure encryption.
