PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a medium conveyance device capable of adequately correcting a conveyance amount at a time when a conveyance roller conveys a medium even when a rotational position detection sensor is not provided, and a method for correcting the conveyance amount. SOLUTION: This medium conveyance device comprises (A) a conveyance roller for conveying a medium by its rotation, the conveyance roller enabling an actual movement amount of the medium at a time when the conveyance roller conveys the medium at a prescribed conveyance amount to be varied depending on the rotational position of the rotating conveyance roller, (B) a memory section storing conveyance characteristic information of the conveyance roller indicative of variation of the actual movement amount depending on the rotational position, (C) a movement amount detection section for detecting the movement amount of the medium, and (D) a controller that determines the rotational position of the conveyance roller on the basis of the detected movement amount and the conveyance characteristic information and corrects the conveyance amount at a time when the conveyance roller conveys the medium after determining the rotational position on the basis of the rotational position information indicative of the determined rotational position.
