PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a fixing temperature ripple small in relation to a target control temperature, to restrain flicker phenomenon, and to prevent fall in fixing temperature. SOLUTION: The fixing device includes: a fixing member 21 for melting a toner image T and fixing it to a recording medium P; a temperature detecting means 40 for detecting the temperature of the fixing member 21; and a heater 25 to which an AC voltage is applied only for a power supply period determined based on the detection result of the temperature detecting means 40, thereby heating the fixing member 21. The heater 25 is subject to phase control such that when the application of the AC voltage starts, the duty of power supply is gradually increased and when the application of an AC voltage is stopped, the duty of power supply is gradually decreased. The heater is also subject to correction control so that time corresponding to the quantity of power supply decreased by the phase control is added to integrated time taken for the power supply.
