PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method capable of manufacturing a stable carrier by which carrier coat particles having a coating layer of a structure having no boundaries in the coating layer, and having a gentle concentration gradient can be obtained, durability is high, toner splashing and background contamination do not occur, the image of high image concentration can be formed, the degradation in electrostatic charging characteristics dose not occur in spite of wear of the carrier coating layer. SOLUTION: In the method for manufacturing the carrier, the solubility of a solution dissolved with a material for coating composed of a plurality of kinds is decreased by controlling any one of the pressure and temperature in a fluid including any one of a supercritical fluid and a subcritical fluid, thereby forming the coating layer on the core material surface. The embodiment that the coating on the core material surface is performed under conditions under which the material for coating consisting of the plurality of the kinds coexist and the embodiment in which any one of the supercritical fluid and the subcritical fluid, and the like is carbon dioxide are preferable.
