The invention relates to aqueous dispersions, characterized in that they comprise (c) at least one aqueous silicon dioxide dispersion with a mean particle diameter of the SiO<SUB>2</SUB> particles of from 1 to 400 nm and (d) at least one water-soluble hydroxyl-containing organic compound, to a process for their preparation and to their use in adhesive and coating formulations.
