PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polymer dispersion capable of being used in forming a coating film in a field of e.g., external furnishings for automobile where high-level water resistance is required. SOLUTION: The coating material provided comprises a polymer (A) obtained by polymerizing a hydrophilic monomer (a1) component by using a radical polymerization initiator having a peroxide group and a hydroperoxide group and polymerizing a hydrophobic monomer (a2) component, a polymer (B) obtained by polymerizing a hydrophobic monomer (b2) component, and water, can be applied to form coating films having excellent appearance, excellent weather resistance, and low odor emission, such as external coating films for automobile where high-level water resistance is required, can be a substitute for an organic solvent-based coating material, and can form coating films with safety in labor hygiene and health.
