<p>A process for preparing silicon oxycarbide forming polymer compositions and derivative compositions thereof, where the process provides for controlling the carbon, silicon, oxygen, and hydrogen content as well as the bond structures of the silicon oxycarbide polymer compositions and derivatives thereof. The process includes mixing a methyl-hydrogen siloxane fluid with an organic compound having at least two carbon-carbon (C=C) bonds in the presence of a platinum catalyst. A proportional ratio relationship between the methyl hydrogen siloxane fluid and the organic compound facilitates control of the silicon, carbon, oxygen and hydrogen in the composition of the resulting silicon oxycarbide polymer compositions and derivatives. The silicon oxycarbide and its derivatives formed from the process may be cured and/or pyrolyzed to produce new materials that exhibit a range of properties between organic resins and pre-ceramic polymers.</p> |
