A linkage mechanism, ideally for securely operating a prison window, consists of a drive spindle 120 which is arranged so that upon rotation it causes a sliding block 180, 210 to move transversely to its axis along a fixed guiding means 19 which may be a guide rod, causing movement of a bar 220 which pivotally connects sliding block 210 to the window, and thereby operation of the window. The drive spindle 120 may be connected to the sliding block by two gears 150, 160, one of which is connected to the drive spindle 120 and the other of which is arranged to be driven by the first, and is connected by a bar 170 to drive the sliding block; bar 170 may be adjustable in length. The second gear 160 may be connected to an indicator bezel 130. The sliding block may consist of a lower block 180 and an upper block 210; the second sliding block 210 may rotate about the axis of the guide rod 190. The linkage mechanism can be situated in the space between an interior grille and the window of a prison cell. Also disclosed is a linkage mechanism wherein the maximum opening of the window is in the range of 30 to 52 degrees. |
