摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a friction engaging device supporting structure for sufficiently gaining an engaging allowance between a snap ring and a groove all over the peripheries, and also to provide a transmission. SOLUTION: The supporting structure for a brake 11 as a friction engaging device comprises the snap ring 31, friction plates 13, 14, and a back plate 21. The snap ring 31 is arranged in the groove 41 annularly extending around a predetermined axis. The back plate 21 includes an end face 23 and an end face 24 opposed to each of the friction plates 13, 14 and to the snap ring 31, respectively. The back plate 21 is arranged between each of the friction plates 13, 14 and the snap ring 31. At least one of the end face 23 and the end face 24 has an inclined portion 26. A distance L1 between the inclined portion 26 and each of the friction plates 13, 14 in the predetermined axial direction, increases from the groove 41 along the radial direction around the predetermined axis where the snap ring 31 is pulled off.
