<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent such a situation that even when a print data size is greater than a paper size usable in an image forming apparatus, an image is omitted or toner adheres not only to paper but also to other parts, with the result that the inside of an image forming apparatus is soiled, and paper is wasted. <P>SOLUTION: When print data are input (S401), the apparatus checks whether paper is present in a paper tray (S402). If it is present, the paper length is detected (S403). The paper, the length of which has been detected is not ejected but conveyed to an inverting conveyance path (S404). Next, the apparatus checks whether the detected paper length matches the data size of a print image in a sub-scanning direction (S405). If they match, printing is carried out (S406).
