PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To generate a phase signal excluded through hardware so that the phase to be paired of a stepping motor will not driven simultaneously by mistake in firmware, for limiting the phase to be controlled simultaneously, or for limiting the current flowing to each phase, by restricting the side of a control section, having a write register with the content of serial data instead of exclusive logic, when setting serial data with the firmware. SOLUTION: A stepping motor drive circuit comprises the step motor; a motor drive means for driving the step motor, by exciting the phase of the step motor according to a phase signal; a phase signal generation means for generating the phase signal, before a drive signal is added; a serial data transmission means for transmitting serial data to the phase signal generation means, in synchronization with a synchronization signal from an image read section; and a serial data verification means having a control register for writing the serial data with the firmware.
