PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a secondary transfer device that is capable of retaining stable performance for a long time by a simple configuration without causing permanent distortion, incorporates a cleaning means, lubricant application means, and secondary transfer roller, and exhibits high cleaning performance. SOLUTION: The secondary transfer device that transfers a primary transfer toner image on an endless belt-like intermediate transfer body to the surface of a recording medium is provided with: a cleaning means to which the secondary transfer roller and a cleaning blade are attached; and a lubricant application means with a lubricant brush roller attached thereto. When the secondary transfer is finished, the secondary transfer roller is moved to a contact releasing position. Consequently, the secondary transfer roller is separated from the endless belt-like intermediate transfer body, and the lubricant brush roller and cleaning blade are released from the contact with the secondary transfer roller.
