<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a coating material for a metal, which contains no rustproof pigment itself, not to mention, no toxic lead-based or chromium salt-based rustproof pigment and has excellent water resistance and adhesivity to metals, and a metal material provided with its coating film. <P>SOLUTION: The coating material for a metal comprises (A) a solid content of a synthetic resin, (B) a filler, (C-1) one or more kinds selected from an acetylene glycol represented by formula (1) and/or an ethoxylated acetylene glycol represented by formula (2), and (C-2) one or more of polyoxy(ethylene-propylene) block polymers represented by formula (3): HO(C<SB>2</SB>H<SB>4</SB>O)<SB>w</SB>(C<SB>3</SB>H<SB>6</SB>O)<SB>x</SB>(C<SB>2</SB>H<SB>4</SB>O)<SB>y</SB>(C<SB>3</SB>H<SB>6</SB>O)<SB>z</SB>H.
