PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical module capable of increasing optical coupling efficiency for guiding emitted light of a semiconductor laser to an optical fiber, in a state where the semiconductor laser and the optical fiber are directly optically coupled and where transparent resin is filled therebetween. SOLUTION: In the optical module, the semiconductor laser 10 and the optical fiber 30 are directly optically coupled, with the transparent resin filled therebetween, and with emitted light generated from the semiconductor laser 10 by driving it at a temperature lower than the room temperature. As a result, a refractive index of the transparent resin 20 near the light emission part of the semiconductor laser 10 is made higher than in other parts; thus, an optical waveguide 200 is formed that guides the emitted light of the semiconductor laser 10 to the optical fiber 30.
