PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a key management system which can manage an operating condition according to carrying-out and return conditions of a key. SOLUTION: The key management system has a cash processing machine 12 and a key management device 11 which can conduct communications with the cash processing machine 12 and which can retain the key for the cash processing machine 12 with possible attachment and detachment. The key management device 11 is provided with a comparison collation means 21 and an output means 16a. The comparison collation means 21 performs comparison and collation between carrying-out and return condition data and operation condition data. The carrying-out and return condition data contains identification information of a person who carries out the key, the time of carrying out, and the time of return. The operation condition data, which is inputted by communications, is related to the use of the key for the cash processing machine 12.
