PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aqueous coating composition capable of stably exerting high water-repelling performance through suppressing water-repelling effect decline after coating film formation. SOLUTION: The aqueous coating composition comprises 100 pts.wt., on a solid basis, of a synthetic resin emulsion (A), 1-100 pts.wt. of an amino-containing organosiloxane compound, 1-100 pts.wt. of a carboxyl-containing polymeric compound, and also a volatile base (D) effective for suppressing the reaction between the components (B) and (C) in the coating. In this coating composition, as the synthetic resin emulsion (A), a synthetic resin emulsion (A-1) is preferable, being such that a (meth)acrylic alkyl ester-derived acrylic resin and a cyclic siloxane compound-derived silicone resin are intermixed in a weight ratio of (99:1) to (30:70) in the emulsion particles.
