PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that particularly a hole end portion of a sheet glass is firstly easily broken, because a local force is generated in a fastening portion, when the sheet glass is firmly fastened by a joint bolt/nut etc., in frictional jointing as a conventional joining method for the sheet glass. SOLUTION: In a joint of the sheet glass G1, the sheet glass G1 and a joint member 3 overlap each other; a bolt is inserted through a through-holes which are formed in the sheet glass G1 and the joint member, respectively; and the sheet glass G1 and the joint member 3 are joined together by a force of 60-300 kN in the uniaxial direction of the bolt 1, which is generated by fastening the sheet glass G1 and the joint member 3 by a nut 2 screwed into the bolt 1. A joining method using the stress generating member 4 for joining the sheet glass is characterized in that the stress generating member 4 with a Young's modulus of 180-230 GPa and a Rockwell hardness of H<SB>R</SB>C 35-45 is sandwiched between the sheet glass G1 and the joint member 3, and pressure-welded to the plate glass G1.
