PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader such that an integrated scanning optical system unit can be made compact and the image reader can be made compact on the whole. SOLUTION: When image information of a document is read by moving the integrated scanning optical system housing, in one body, a plurality of mirrors reflecting luminous flux from the document lit by a light source means of lighting the document, an imaging optical system imaging the luminous flux reflected by the plurality of mirrors, and a read means disposed at the imaging position of the imaging optical system, the mirror disposed optically closest to a document surface side among the plurality of mirrors is disposed at an end in a subscanning direction in the integrated scanning optical system unit as compared with other mirrors in a subscanning section and the center part of a reflecting surface of the mirror is disposed in the space between the center part of a mirror disposed most optically in front of an incident surface of the imaging optical system in a normal direction of the document surface and center parts of reflecting surfaces of other mirrors.
