PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus capable of obtaining a high-quality image from which noise that is caused during a shift from a motion picture mode to a still picture mode is completely removed, by performing smooth photographing without stress by shortening a shifting period from the motion picture mode to the still picture mode. SOLUTION: When a still picture imaging instruction is input during the motion picture mode, two start pulses are continuously input to a shift register for the electronic shutter of a solid-state imaging apparatus. After lines are reset by scanning with the first pulse, the still picture mode is started by scanning with the second pulse. Thus, according to the present invention, the imaging apparatus can be attained in which the time required for switching the motion picture mode and the still picture mode is shortened and a high-quality still image with no afterimage difference between lines can be photographed.
