PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a classifier which is suitable for lowering coarse powder mixing into a product fine powder in particular, and to provide a vertical mill equipped with the classifier which lowers mixing of coarse powder into the product fine powder. SOLUTION: The classifier consists of a plurality of rotary fins 21 rotating around a central shaft, a plurality of fixed fins 12 which are circularly arranged and concentrically to the rotary fins 21 in the outer periphery of the rotary fins 21, and a funnel-shaped cone part 11 which is arranged concentrically to the rotary fins 21 under the fixed fins 12 such that the upper part contacts to the lower part of the fixed fins 12, wherein a raw material particle is made to ride on an upward gas flow from the downward side of the outer peripheral side of the fixed fins 12 to be supplied to the fixed fins 12 as a solid-gas double phase flow, and made to pass through the fixed fins 12 to be centrifugally classified, also the solid-gas double phase flow, which has passed through the fixed fins 12, is supplied to the inner peripheral side of the rotary fins 21 so that the product fine powder and a gas are made to pass through, and a passage section-area adjustment means changes a passage section-area of the fixed fins 12 according to the particle concentration of the flowing-in solid-gas double phase flow.
