PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical device of which a component can easily be replaced while the device is installed in a ceiling-suspended state and which is improved in operation efficiency during maintenance, and a projection type video display device using the same. SOLUTION: The optical device constituted by fixing an assembly component 36, having a plurality of optical components assembled in one body, to a fitting part 41 with screws is characterized in that engagement parts 414 and 365 for attachably and detachably engaging the assembly component 36 with the fitting part 41 are formed on the fitting part 41 and assembly component 36 respectively and at least the one engagement part 414 has elasticity for making attachable and detachable when force larger than the weight of the assembly component 36 operates thereupon.
