PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect abnormality in an early stages for a rotary machine supported by a sliding bearing. SOLUTION: On the basis of a plurality of dimensional oscillation parameter computed from oscillation information on the rotary machine, a state evaluation index is computed. On the basis of the state evaluation index, whether the rotary machine is good or bad is determined. The plurality of dimensional oscillation parameters are chosen from the following ten kinds of parameters and include at least a speed RMS value, a rotation frequency component value of speed, two times the rotation frequency component value, an acceleration RMS value, and a rotation frequency component value of acceleration. Parameters are: a speed peak value, the speed RMS value, the rotation frequency component value of speed, two times the rotation frequency component value, three times the rotation frequency component value, four times the rotation frequency component value, a 0.44 times the rotation frequency component value, an acceleration peak value, the acceleration RMS value, and the rotation frequency component value of acceleration.
