PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a displacement sensor and a photoelectric sensor which control the projection time of a projection means and make a fixed level the photo receiving quantity of a photo receiving means in a detection period and which can set up the projection time in the detection period as short as possible. SOLUTION: A control circuit outputs drive pulses S01-S03 and makes a projection element project for a predetermined time (projection time t01-t03 for detection). The control circuit outputs a drive pulse S31 for monitoring, makes the projection element project during a non-detection period, and secures the photo receiving quantity (a photo receiving signal S21 for monitoring) in the photo receiving element for monitoring.
