PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform suitable color conversion corresponding to image characteristics on both a photographic image and an image including a character region and a background region when performing CMYK-CMYK color conversion. SOLUTION: An image processing mode selection unit 47 selects whether to perform image processing taking priority to image quality of a photographic image or to perform image processing giving priority to image quality of an image including the character region and the background region of a business document or a map, etc., in accordance with user input. When image processing taking priority to the image quality of the photographic image is selected by the image processing mode selection unit 47, a color conversion method switching unit 41 supplies CMYK data (C1M1Y1K1) to be color-converted to a CMYK four-color conversion unit 42 and when the image processing taking priority to the image quality of the image including the character region and the background region is selected, CMYK image data (C1M1Y1K1) to be color-converted are supplied to a CMY/K division unit 43.
