A dicarboxydithiol, and a water-soluble reducing composition containing the dicarboxydithiol for reshaping the permanently waved hair are provided to reduce the damage to hair and to improve the curling maintenance. A dicarboxydithiol is a compound represented by the formula I or II, or the mineral or organic salt of the compound, wherein A is (CH2)n or (CH2)m-X-(CH2)p; R1 and R2 are independently OR3 or NR4R5; R3 is H, or a linear or branched C1-C5 alkyl group substituted or unsubstituted with at least one OR7; R7 is H or a C1-C3 alkoxy group; R4 and R5 are independently H, or a linear or branched C1-C5 alkyl group substituted or unsubstituted with one or two group selected from a hydroxyl group, a methoxy group, an ethoxy group, a methylamino group, an ethylamino group and a dimethylamino group.
