PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mechanism for aligning the moving direction of a first mirror with the direction of the optical axis of a focusing lens, to reduce the influence of the dust adhered to the first mirror of a reduction optical system, on the read image. SOLUTION: A document reading apparatus includes: a document scanning section that can move along a document, for reading the document; a reading section for reading the document; one or more supporting pulleys that support one or more driving wires for pulling the document scanning section in a reference direction along the document, on at least one end side of the range of the movement; and one or more position adjustment parts for adjusting the document scanning section to move in parallel to the reference direction, by adjusting the position of each supporting pulley in the axial direction of the supporting pulley.
