<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To extend the service life of a capacitor while the power can be supplied to an auxiliary heat generating body at an appropriate timing without impairing a function as an auxiliary power unit. <P>SOLUTION: The fixing device includes: a pair of fixing rollers, one of which incorporates a main heat generating body and the auxiliary heat generating body, facing each other in parallel while bringing the circumferential surfaces thereof in tight contact with each other; a main power unit for supplying power to the main heat generating body; the auxiliary power unit equipped with the freely chargeable/dischargeable capacitor, for supplying power from the capacitor to the auxiliary heat generating body; and a controller for controlling the charge/discharge of the capacitor of the auxiliary power unit. As a prescribed time (t2 to t3) passes after the device becomes an idling state (t2), the controller shifts to a power saving mode (t3), as the device becomes the idling state (t2), and also, as the device shifts to the power saving mode (t3), the controller controls the auxiliary power unit to charge the capacitor with such power (charging power) that makes a time required to fully charge the capacitor equal to the prescribed time (t2 to t3). <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
