<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To implement highly accurate control without causing a flicker phenomenon when fixing a toner image on a recording material by use of a fixing device having heat sources. <P>SOLUTION: In the fixing device, a fixing heat source 30 is accommodated in a fixing roller 27 that is a fixing member in the shape of a roller. The fixing heat source is composed of a plurality of heat sources 31 disposed adjacent to each other. One of the heat sources 31 is used as a main heat source 32 and the others as auxiliary heat sources 33. Each heat source 31 may be composed of a single heat generating body. But each of the heat sources shown in the drawing is composed of a plurality of heat generating bodies 32a and 32b or 33a and 33b. For example, a halogen heater is used as the heat generating body. The total quantity of power of the main heat source 32 is greater than the total quantity of power of the auxiliary heat sources 33.
