An electrical appliance, such as a kettle or coffee-maker, comprises a washable part 2 having valve means 10 in its base, the valve means being opened by placing the washable part 2 on a support surface 4 or against a further appliance part. When the appliance is washed the valve closes thus minimizing the entry of water into the appliance. |
