A rotary pump, Fig. 1, comprises inclined discs 1, 5 having interengaging spiral flutes 3, 4 respectively; the disc 1 being mounted on a driving-shaft 2 and the disc 5 being journalled in a beadring 6. The discs may have any desired number of spiral flutes and the flow therethrough may be radially inwards or outwards. At least one disc consists entirely or partly of an elastic and wear-resistant material. 'In modifications, Figs. 6 and 7 (not shown), the discs have concentric flutes 23 inter-connected through channels 24 through the side walls of which the drive is transmitted. The discs may be shaped,as shown in Fig. 12, the angles 47, 48 being 233 and 121 degrees, respectively; the disc 42 or 43 being made at least in part of plastics, compression-moulding material or hard rubber. For driving purposes, the discs may incorporate bevel gear teeth 51, 52 or spur gear teeth 53, 54, as shown in Fig. 13.
