A stretcher off-loading gear of the type having a longitudinally movable and tiltable stretcher carrying frame 1 supported at its outer end on pivotable struts 9, has wheels 8 travelling over a ramp 16, and is arrested in its extreme positions by wheel-engaging brackets 12 or buffers 17. A platform 6 over which the stretcher slides is provided with a latex foam. mattress 14 having cut away ends 18, 19, the mattress fitting in a wooden tray 15 which prevents its horizontal movement, and the tray having holes in its bottom which permit escape of trapped air and increases the softness of the mattress. As the stretcher is loaded, and lowered .by running the wheels 8 down the ramp 16, it is deposited upon the mattress which then takes the weight of the patient and relieves him of shocks due to vehicle acceleration and braking.
