An MIMO(Multiple Input Multiple Output) communication system is provided to adopt a wired transmission mode for connecting a base station with a repeater through one optical fiber, thereby significantly reducing transmission path installation costs and maintenance/management costs and improving reliability and bandwidth in comparison with a wireless transmission mode. An MIMO(Multiple Input Multiple Output) communication system comprises a base station and a repeater. The base station comprises the followings. Plural symbol mappers(330A-330M) maps inputted plural bit streams with plural symbol signals. An MIMO multiplexer(335) generates plural exchange signals by exchanging bits of the plural symbol signals. Plural code spreaders(340A-340M) generate plural spread signals by performing spread spectrum of the plural exchange signals. An adder(345) receives first to M spreading signals(S8A-S8M) from the code spreaders, and adds up and outputs I signals and Q signals of the first to M spreading signals.
