<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a nano carbon emitter superior in electron emitting capacity, uniformity and stability, a method of manufacturing the nano carbon emitter manufacturable by a simple process of high controllability, and a surface light emitting device having high luminance, high uniformity and high reliability, by applying the nano carbon emitter. <P>SOLUTION: This nano carbon emitter 1 is constituted by arranging a nano carbon material complex 4 on a conductive layer 3, by forming a nano carbon material 6 on a base body 2, the conductive layer 3 arranged on the base body 2 and a diamond particulate 5 directly or via metal or a metallic compound. The conductive layer 3 has an adhesive property. The diamond particulate 5 has the particle size smaller than 1μm.
