<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus by which waist circumference calculation is performed from the abdomen width value easily and with good reproducibility. <P>SOLUTION: The apparatus is equipped with an abdomen width value calculation means for calculating the abdomen width value, a storing means for storing correlation formula between the abdomen width value and the waist circumference, and an waist circumference calculation method for calculating the waist circumference from the abdomen width value measured by the abdomen width value measuring means and the correlation formula. The correlation formula is derived from the correlation between the abdomen width value and the waist circumference which may be expressed by the following regression formula: Y=aX+b (wherein "Y" is a waist circumference of a human being; "X" is an abdomen width value of a human being; and "a" and "b" are constants). Therefore, the easy handling work is possible without winding a measuring device around all the waist circumference, and the accurate measurement of waist circumference with reproducibility is obtained with minimized influence from the shape change in the anteroposterior direction of the abdomen which changes with a breathing action. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
