PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tapered roller bearing, and a retainer suitably adoptable for the tapered roller bearing improving seizure resistance, by smoothing a flow of lubricating oil between a large end surface of a tapered roller and a roller guide surface of a large collar of an inner ring. SOLUTION: This retainer 40 has a large diameter side annular part 41, a small diameter side annular part 42, and a plurality of column parts 44 connecting both these annular parts and partitioning and forming a pocket 43 for respectively holding a plurality of tapered rollers 30. A projection part 45 extending over to the vicinity of a large diameter side end part from the vicinity of a small diameter side end part at an inclinationθ2 smaller than an inclinationθ1 on the outer peripheral surface side, to a line L1 or L2 parallel to the axis, on the inner peripheral surface side of the plurality of column parts 44. A guiding groove 46 for fluidly guiding the lubricating oil toward the large diameter side end part from the small diameter side end part, is recessed on the inner peripheral surface side of the projection part 45.
