<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a drive assist device capable of realizing the economical driving while preventing adverse effect on the traffic flow of vehicles around one's own vehicle. <P>SOLUTION: The drive assist device which is mounted on a vehicle to assist the driving operation by a driver for realizing the economical driving comprises a stop position detection means for detecting the target stop position at which one's own vehicle is temporarily stopped, a starting position calculation means for calculating the position at which the fuel cutoff control is started when one's own vehicle is temporarily stopped at the target stop position without using any friction brake by using an engine brake, and a succeeding vehicle detection means for detecting a succeeding vehicle traveling behind one's own vehicle and the vehicle-to-vehicle distance from the succeeding vehicle. The starting position calculation means corrects the calculated fuel cutoff control starting position so that the vehicle-to-vehicle distance is kept to be not less than the predetermined value before one's own vehicle is stopped when the succeeding vehicle is detected by the succeeding vehicle detection means. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
