PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a navigation system for a vehicle capable of reducing the obstruction to a driving operation, due to the operation of the navigation system for a vehicle, and reducing the time that a driver has to view a screen. SOLUTION: The navigation system for a vehicle which displays road map information, or the like, comprises a map display means 12 for displaying road map information on a screen; a display area changing means 36 to change a display area of the map which is displayed on the screen; operation means 14 and 15 which can operate the display area changing means 36; and a specific area selecting means 35 for selecting a particular area which is displayed on the screen with high possibility, by operating the operation means 14 and 15 according to a predetermined condition. In the display area changing means 36, changing of display area is stopped temporarily, if the display area turns to the specific area selected by the particular area selecting means 35, while continuously changing the display area of the map corresponding to the given operation of the operation means 14 and 15.
