PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve an operation method for an internal combustion engine, a controller therefor and a computer program therefor, to attain sure combustion of an ignited air-fuel mixture. SOLUTION: The present invention discloses the method of using an ignition device having at least one laser device to emit a laser pulse into a combustion chamber, and of emitting the at least one laser pulse into the combustion chamber, based on the first ignition progress, when required, in particular, when no combustion occurs, the computer program programmed to carry out the method, and the controller for the internal combustion engine constituted to execute the method.
