A device and a method for managing mapping information in a non-volatile memory supporting a different cell type are provided to manage the mapping information effectively by determining a memory area for storing physical/logical address mapping information in consideration of physical property of each memory area in the memory area of each cell type. A user requester(110) receives an operation request using a logical address from a user. A non-volatile memory(120) includes a plurality of memory areas having different cell types. A mapping information manager(130) stores the mapping information for user data, which is written in a second memory area(122) of an MLC(Multi Level Cell) type, to a first memory area(121) of an SLC(Single Level Cell) type. The first memory area includes a mapping information storing area storing the mapping information of the second memory area and an index area representing validity of the mapping information stored in the mapping information storing area.
