Methylesters of higher fatty acids prepared by alkaline catalytic transesterification of vegetable oils and/or animal fats with methanol are treated so that with a purpose to decrease content of alkali in a reaction mixture a polar solvent which is non-soluble in methylesters is added after transesterification, and after extraction a system is settled. The polar solvent is glycerol or own glycerol phase from process.
