In a system for localising and positioning towed streamers (acoustic linear antennas), the streamers each have transducers T for measuring the distance to at least one adjacent streamer, and navigation control devices B (e.g. birds) distributed over the length of the streamers in order to steer them, at least in a lateral direction. Each streamer also includes feedback controllers A which communicate locally with and process the data from the distance measuring transducers T and control, according to the measured distance data, the navigation control devices B. Preferably the distance measurement transducers are bidirectional acoustic transducers. Placing the feedback controllers near the distance measuring transducers and navigation control devices avoids having to transmit data back and forth to a centralized processor on the towing vessel. |
