HAND-OFF PROCESSING METHOD AND SYSTEM IN WIRELESS TELECOMMUNICATION SYSTEM

A method and an apparatus for processing handoff in a wireless communication system are provided to perform the handoff to an optimum RAS in consideration of signals strength of a neighboring RAS and service quality provided from a corresponding RAS, thereby continuously providing a communication service of high service quality. A method for processing handoff comprises the following steps of: receiving neighboring RAS(Radio Access System) information of a serving RAS from the serving RAS(S110); transmitting a handoff request message including a handoff candidate list to the serving RAS if signal strength transmitted from the serving RAS is below a threshold value(S120,S130); receiving a handoff response message including a handoff recommendation list from the serving RAS(S140); normalizing signal strength of a neighboring RAS included in the handoff recommendation list, ranking a service level of the RAS, and selecting an RAS having the maximum operation value as a target RAS-wherein the RAS has the maximum operation value among final operation values calculated by applying a predetermined algorithm to the normalized value and the ranked level value(S150); and transmitting a handoff indication message, for requesting handoff to the selected target RAS from the serving RAS, to the serving RAS(S160).
