Methods, systems and devices for securing supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) communications

A secure supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system (101) for communicating with a plurality of remote terminal units (RTUs) (118A-118E) is disclosed. The secure SCADA system comprises: (a) a SCADA control host (104) configured to process SCADA information; and (b) a transceiver (110 A-C) configured to transfer the SCADA information between the SCADA control host (104) and at least one of the plurality of remote terminal units (118A-118E). The SCADA system further comprises a host security device (HSD) (102) operatively coupled between the SCADA control host (104) and the transceiver (110 A-C), where the HSD (102) is configured to transparently encrypt and decrypt the SCADA information passing through the HSD (102) to establish secure communications between the SCADA control host (104) and the at least one of the plurality of remote terminal units (118A-118E), and to stream the SCADA information passing there through such that a portion of a first packet of SCADA information is encrypted/decrypted as it is received by the HSD (102) and transferred to the at least one of the plurality of RTUs (118A-118E) or the control host (104), respectively, concurrent with the receipt of another portion of the first packet by the HSD (102).
