A seal for binding the overlapping ends of a tape formed of a multiplicity of parallel cords and constituted by a metal or thermoplastic resin sleeve 17 or 20 enclosing the overlapping tape ends 13, 14 is shaped to apply pressure along the length of each of the cords to increase the frictional resistance of the cords with respect to each other and to the seal. The seal is of a flattened U-shape and after positioning around the two ends of a tape a tool forms a series of longitudinal diagonal grooves to separately grip each cord, or as shown in Fig. 2, the tool may form a series of separate rounded indentations 18, those pressing into one cord being staggered with those pressing into the adjacent cord. The cord may be as described in Specification 922,422. |
