An electrically insulating coating is formed on an electrically conductive heater wire by employing the wire as the negative electrode in an electrophoretic bath containing a suspension of coating composition, drying in air, and firing at 1375-1825 DEG C., e.g. in an atmosphere of hydrogen. The coating composition contains aluminium oxide or boron oxide, and includes the oxides of at least two of the elements titanium, vanadium, chromium, manganese, iron, cobalt, nickel, zirconium, molybdenum, rhodium, tungsten and tantalum in amount 0,7-3%. A number of examples of coating both compositions are given, which also contain aluminium and/or magnesium nitrates. |
