The method involves modifying a scart connection (3) of a digital television receiver (1), and utilizing a set of scart contacts (7) for detecting whether a special external device (2) e.g. Bluetooth adapter, is connected by generating and detecting a defined voltage value at the scart contacts. Another set of scart contacts (6) are utilized for detecting whether the special external device is operative by the detection of the voltage value. An electrical voltage is connected in a full level on the scart contacts (7) when the external device is detected.
