A resilient mounting strip for windows such as the curved windshield or rear window of an automobile comprises a base portion 16 and lips 18, 20, extending therefrom to form a channel 22 to receive the edge of the glass 11, the lips 18, 20, having their roots spaced apart a distance greater than the thickness of the glass 11 and having their free edges converging to within less than that distance so that when mounted in the channel 22 the glass is gripped only by the free edges. As shewn the lip 18 has a flange 24 projecting from its free edge which in the unstressed condition overlaps the lip 20. The base of channel 22 has one or more ridges 26 to receive the edge of glass 11 and a slot 28 in the strip receives a flange 36 of a body member 34. An offset portion 38 of member 34 abuts a flange 32 of the mounting strip. On the outer side of the automobile a retainer 38A is screwed to member 34 and a decorative trim strip 42 is clipped thereto. A similar construction may be employed on the inside of the vehicle but at one position as shewn a defroster slot 44 is formed between the edge of the dash panel 46 and the glass 11.
